India could be an ally in the creation of a space agency in the Dominican Republic

New Delhi. The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) could be an important ally in the process of forming a space agency in the Dominican Republic and in the development of capacities of Dominican professionals.

This was stated by the Ambassador of the Dominican Republic to India, David Puig, after the conclusion of a training program in UNNATI nanosatellites, where two Dominican aerospace engineers were trained.

The study program, taught by ISRO, benefited Edwin Sánchez and Iván Jiménez, from the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC), who are working on the creation of the first Dominican nanosatellite, which will be used to detect the origin, movement and behavior of sargassum in the Caribbean.

The two-month training took place at the ISRO facility in the city of Bangalore, the capital of the southern Indian state of Karnataka, and was attended by representatives from 19 countries.

Edwin Sánchez, president of the Dominican Aerospace Association, pointed out that “this experience exposed us to the opportunity to make mistakes and find solutions.”

Meanwhile, Iván Jiménez pointed out that the course “was an opportunity to see the work behind the scenes of these complex processes that result in such precise machinery.”

The UNNATI program (Unispace Nano Satellite Assembly and Training by ISRO), financed by the cooperation of the Government of India, was created with the objective of offering an intensive course for citizens of developing countries on the realization of nanosatellites and to provide practical training to assemble, integrate and test low-cost modular nanosatellites.

About the ISRO

With more than fifty years of experience in research and in the launch of space vehicles, ISRO is one of the most prestigious space agencies in the world, only between 2018 and 2022 it put 177 foreign satellites into orbit, providing services to countries like Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, France and Israel, among others.
