Independiente today beat Talleres de Córdoba 1-0 as a visitor, at the start of the Professional Football League (LPF).
The only goal was scored by local defender Ángelo Martino, 6 minutes into the second half, against his own goal, after a cross from Ayrton Costa.

Independiente showed good football most of the time and took an important victory at the start of the 2023 season and the cycle of DT Leandro Stillitano.
In the preview of the game, as it happened on all the courts, a small tribute was made to the world champions with an imitation of the cup in the center and several boys and girls dressed in the colors of Argentina.
In addition, Independiente had the support of 6,000 fans, after the negotiation between the directors of both clubs and the authorization of the security agencies, something that is not allowed for all the institutions that will visit Córdoba.
In the first arrival, when there was still not a minute left, in a defensive miscalculation by Talleres, Rodrigo Márquez found himself surprisingly in front of goal, although his definition, tight and weak, hit goalkeeper Guido Herrera’s left post.
Talleres and Independiente showed similar faces as the minutes went by: dynamic movements, short partnerships with triangulations, control and good handling of the ball with short passes to their teammate. There were also vertical searches towards the rival goal.
The visiting team had greater offensive weight, especially when the Ecuadorian Juan Cazares was present, as in the assistance to Matías Giménez (35m.), who finished off the right post.
On the other hand, the local lacked those moments of lucidity in the final meters, and all their arrivals -the majority with Rodrigo Garro as creator- never disturbed the rookie Rodrigo Rey, one of the 11 reinforcements.

The complement brought justice to what was the development of the previous stage: after a climb by Costa and a cross that bounced off a local defender, Independiente found themselves up in the result.
That total control and tranquility did not last long, because Iván Marcone, who came out with the captain’s ribbon, saw the red card after 11 minutes and complicated the situation, since Talleres took possession and made Rey uncomfortable.
Those led by Stillitano continued with the same script of the preseason at the bottom: high pressure, intense one-on-one and order in the background, despite the man less.
To top it off, Martino made another mistake, which added to his goal against, and rounded off a dark night when he headed Sergio Barreto and had himself sent off in the face of referee Hernán Mastrángelo.
What a night, Angelo! Martino, who scored against Independiente’s goal, was sent off for this header against Barreto in the #Professional League ??. Now it’s 10 against 10!

In the final minutes, the push from Talleres forced Independiente to withdraw and at that moment the one who appeared was Rey, who blocked an impossible header from Michael Santos. The goalkeeper had a great previous season with the colors of Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata and on this day he endorsed it.
Talleres’ path will continue next Sunday against Atlético Tucumán, as a visitor, while Independiente will appear before its people on the same day against Platense.
