Independence process had battles and deaths, says historian

Recent studies and theses by historians show that the Independence of Brazil was not a peaceful process, and several internal conflicts were fought in the country during the preparation for the independence process, he explained today (6), in an interview with the program The Voice of Brazilthe historian and National Secretary for Cultural Diversity at the Ministry of Tourism, Rafael Nogueira.Independence process had battles and deaths, says historian

Nogueira also spoke about the historical collection of the National Library, which keeps newspapers and historical documents that trace the political and cultural scenario of the independence process.

“It was through the newspapers of the time that news – and not only news, but ideas – circulated”, explained the historian.

“It was found that there was a habit of reading newspapers aloud. And very important newspapers. All of them are digitized and can be accessed online”, he informed.

In addition to the periodicals, correspondence between Dom João and Dom Pedro, documents by José Bonifácio and various items related to Maria Leopoldina. All historical documentation can be accessed at ABN Digital collection.
