Increases electricity generation with natural sources

2022 concluded with a growth in the participation of the renewable energy in the country’s electricity generation matrix, so that equalize to production with derivatives of oil, reported today the Dominican Association of the Electric Industry (GOODBYE) in his year-end report.

The document details that this year the energy was supplied in the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) for the following primary sources: 39% natural gas, 30% coal, 15% petroleum derivatives, 6% water, 1% biomass, 5% wind and 3% sun.

It also indicates that the electrical system currently has 833 megawatts (MW) of energies renewable large-scale unconventional plants in operation, of which 370 are wind, 433 solar photovoltaic and 30 biomass-based.

The GOODBYE attributes the growth in the contributions of renewable generation to the joint work between the government and the private sector that has made “important” investments in recent years in Projects that “are regional benchmarks” in terms of capital transfer and technological development.

“Thanks to the efforts of the private sector, with the encouragement of the government, the country has reached levels records in the participation of renewable energy unconventional that until a few years ago was non-existent”, highlighted the GOODBYE.

Biggest generation in coming years

The union report foresees that by the end of 2023 or beginning of 2024, the country has more than 1,336 MW from renewable energy unconventional and in the coming years renewable energies will surpass petroleum derivatives as a source of electricity generation.

It highlights that in the country they are in building 12 parks of electricity generation with renewable sources that will contribute an additional 503 MW to the 833 MW currently enabled, which could be operating in 2023 or in the first quarter of 2024.

He qualifies as “a milestone in the electrical history of the country” the award for new projects in Manzanillo, Montecristi, which will contribute to the SENI 800 MW, which will be added to another 800 MW under construction, increasing firm power capacity by more than 1,600 MW by the end of 2024 and 2026.

The GOODBYE reaffirmed the trust and commitment to the country and its economy to mobilize resources in generation projects that guarantee the energy of the present and the future.
