Medical organizations in the country warn of the increase in emergencies after the use of biopolymers in aesthetic procedures, which are practiced mainly by women.
It is worth mentioning that Biopolymers are molecules of different origins derived from petroleum, of plant origin and many even of synthetic origin, that should not be used for any aesthetic surgical intervention according to doctors and surgeons.
According to Julián Durán, an aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon who is an expert on the subject, Biopolymers cause iatrogenic allogenosis and added that they are dangerous since they can even cause death.
“The first is that they can trigger an excessive inflammatory reaction and granulomas, since the body identifies the biopolymer as a foreign object and a defensive reaction is triggered,” warned the expert.

In the same way, the doctor pointed out that these elements “can migrate from the place where they were infiltrated, creating complications at a distance. The third is that most of the time they do not have any sanitary control, which increases the risk of complications and secondary effects due to infection, even causing death.”
Finally, the surgeon Julián Durán pointed out that other consequences of the use of biopolymers are allergies, fibrosis, injuries and changes in skin texture, or even death.

According to the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS), In 2020, 366,312 aesthetic procedures were performed in Colombia.
