The Dominican Oil Refinery (Refidomsa) assured that the works for the construction of the liquefied petroleum gas spheres are advancing “by leaps and bounds” (LPG), which would increase the storage capacity of this fuel in the country.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors of RefidomsaLeonardo Aguilera, stated that, once the work is completed, it will tend to reduce the price of this fuel in the market, one of those that has the greatest impact on the lives of citizens.
Regarding the storage capacity of petroleum derivatives in the Dominican Republic, Aguilera indicated that the reserves of fuels They “do not hold” for more than 30 to 45 days.
“Few countries have reserves for a long time. If the conflict (Russia-Ukraine) worsens, the Dominican Republic, like the other countries that are not oil producers, would obviously be affected by the price system”, he explained.
The price of intermediate oil from Texas, a reference for the country, closed yesterday with a rise of 0.8%, to 92.81 dollars a barrel, after touching 100 dollars in the morning due to the Russian offensive in Ukraine.
hydrocarbon exploration
In another order, the official reported that the Refidomsa created a structure that has initiated exploratory investigations of hydrocarbons in the country to eventually move towards the exploitation of these possible deposits.
“We will deploy all technological and human efforts to determine if we have that resource (oil). Last week we had the director of the Colombian Hydrocarbons Agency, in the south, with whose government we are seeking a collaboration agreement”, he revealed.
However, during a mass on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the state company, he maintained that, although some important efforts have been made to verify the existence of hydrocarbons in national territory, “to date we have not been able to arrive at the satisfaction that the existence of oil in a commercially exploitable quantity would produce in all of us”.
“Finding oil in a usable quantity in our territory would represent a huge step in seeking to lighten the heavy burden of importing all the hydrocarbons demanded by our growing economy,” he declared.
