The Institute of Public Security (ISP) released, on Thursday (24), the data from June this year, which indicate an increase in the number of thefts of cell phones in the state of Rio de Janeiro. Last month, there were 3,374 stolen handsets, against 2,625 in the same period as 2024, which represents growth of 29%. 
Theft to people on the streets also rose from 999 in June last year to 1,040 last month, representing an increase of 4%.
Also the number of bicycle thefts in Rio de Janeiro municipalities remains. In June, there were 390 bikes taken against 328 in the same period last year, an increase of 19%.
Theft of people in collectives also grew: 734 passengers stolen last June against 541 in the same period of 2024, an increase of 36%.
Vehicle theft
According to the ISP, last month, there was a drop in vehicle theft in the state of Rio de Janeiro. There were 1,896 cases, against 2,237 in the same month of 2024 – a reduction of 15.2%. In accumulated of the year, the fall was 10.2%, with 11,736 records between January and June, compared to 13,064 in the same period last year.
Other indicators that had a positive result were violent lethality, which fell 14% in June – a smaller number since the beginning of the historical series in 1991 – with 269 records, compared to 313 in the same month of the previous year; The death of state agent intervention, which retreated from 71 to 43, the lowest number for the month since 2020; Dolly homicides, which had the lowest June since 1991, with a drop of 2.7% (220 cases in 2025 against 226 in 2024); and the murder, which went from 44 victims in June 2024 to 30 in the year.
Seizure of weapons and drugs
In the first half, 387 rifles were seized in the state, 18 more than in the same period of the previous year, with an increase of 4.9%, the largest number for the semester since the beginning of the historical series in 2007.
There were also 12,337 drug seizures in the year. The recovery of vehicles added 8,658 records between January and June, an increase of 5.6% compared to the same period last year.
“The increase in the seizures of rifles, as well as the seizure of drugs and the recovery of vehicles, demonstrates that we follow firm in facing organized crime and withdrawal of high -destructive weapons of the streets. The data produced by ISP are essential to guide these actions accurately and efficiently,” said Institute President Marcela Ortiz.
