Increase coverage for patients and fees for doctors

The National Social Security Council (CNSS) yesterday approved the resolution 563-01through which the coverage for hospitalizations and consultations, medical fees, diagnostic tests, hospitalization and the use of rooms and equipment, among other health services, increases.

The decision was made, according to a communication, during an extraordinary meeting of the Council, which approved increasing a 20% to medical fees on procedures and 50% in admission consultations.

According to the document, this increase represents an increase of RD$2,700 million a year, which would be received by doctors as of February 2023, in addition to the RD$2,800 million increased in October 2021, when they increased 20% to the medical fees and 30% in interconsultation.

Furthermore, the resolution increases 7% for exams and diagnostic tests, 15% for the use of the room and equipment, which will be reviewed for 90 days by the Health Care Account of the people, which does not affect the pocket of the affiliates.

The CNSS also increased the coverage of clinic and hospital rooms by 15% per day.

In this sense, the coverage of the Health Risk Administrators (ARS) for rooms will be 100% up to the amount of RD$1,725 ​​and 90% between RD$1,726 and RD$2,415.

The resolution establishes that the ARS must grant the codes to the doctors, within a period of 30 days, from the completion of the necessary documentation and requirements.

As part of the measures, the CNSS instructed the Superintendency of Health and Occupational Risks to guarantee that the ARS do not increase the fees for services provided, nor do the Health Service Providers, as a result of the new increases agreed upon and that this is translated into an increase in spending for the population affiliated with the Family Health Insurance.

Regarding the proposal to increase outpatient consultations, the rate for emergencies, home consultations and annual indexation, it was established that the National Committee of Professional Fees, who must make the evaluation, know it.

Doesn’t please CMD

The first vice president of the Dominican Medical Association (CMD) and member of the negotiating commission, Justo Nicasiosaid that the resolution partly benefits the doctors and the population, although it does not meet all the expectations and objectives of the fight of the doctors.

The doctor pointed out that the board of directors of the CMD and the specialized medical societies must meet to hear and decide on the resolution, make their position known on the resolution and determine whether to accept them or continue the fight that has developed in recent months.
