Inbursa, owned by Carlos Slim, gives up buying Banamex

Inbursa, owned by Carlos Slim, gives up buying Banamex

“Inbursa confirms that after its non-binding proposal for the acquisition of said businesses, the parties mutually agreed that Inbursa will not continue in the following stages of the process,” it detailed.

Inbursa said that they will accelerate technological development and the potential for growth and participation in the Mexican market with an offer of differentiated products.

Now, in the fight for the bank, two business groups remain: Grupo México, led by Germán Larrea, and Grupo Financiero Mifel, which is chaired by Daniel Becker.

The new owner of Banamex, in the sights of the competitors

The director of BBVA Mexico, Eduardo Osuna, said, prior to the announcement, that the bank will monitor who will stay with Banamex in order to see the opportunities in terms of competition.

“The change of hands of a player as important as Banamex is going to generate different conditions in the market. We have to put together a strategy depending on who buys,” he explained.

The manager hopes that whoever gets it has experience to be a good competitor.
