In Zulia three men murdered in Paraguachón

Three Venezuelan men were killed by some subjects who were on a motorcycle and without saying a word opened fire on them. The incident occurred yesterday, Friday, in the Paraguachón corregimiento sector, in La Raya, Zulia state, on the border between Colombia and Venezuela.

One of the victims was identified by his relatives as Junior González Flores, who lived on 34th Avenue in the 26 de Julio neighborhood, San Benito parish between the 19 de Abril and Sucre sectors of the Cabimas municipality, in the Zulian entity. According to neighbors, Junior frequently traveled to Maicao; They report that a brother died a year ago in similar circumstances. Of the other two people there is no precise information.

According to preliminary versions, the victims were sharing in the place, known as “no man’s land”, due to its geographical location, it was raining a lot and unexpectedly several men on a motorcycle arrived, shot them and fled immediately.

Both the Government Secretariat of Maicao and the Police indicated to the Colombian media that the homicides occurred in foreign territory, for which they did not offer information related to this tragic event.

Inhabitants of the corregimiento assure that people identified as alleged relatives of the victims, took the bodies to their places of origin.

The event caused consternation in the community, as it is a very busy site with a police presence from both countries. There were expressions of fear in the face of the growing wave of violence in that area, due to the presence of illegal structures.

Passers-by told local media that they heard several bursts, then silence and as they approached they saw three bodies on the floor. “A dark case that had not happened before in La Raya,” commented one of the witnesses.

The Institute of Studies for Development and Peace (Indepaz) reported that with the murder of the three men in Maicao, 62 massacres have been completed so far this year. The Ombudsman’s Office issued an early warning in Maicao.

The authorities of the neighboring country have indicated that the border trails are territories where antisocial gangs hide and for this reason many people choose to take the trails for documentation reasons, they are affected by robberies when they have not ‘paid’ the fees that they demand for the security of those who dare to cross the border on the trails.
