This May 17, in the state of Colima Congress approved the elimination of the mandatory use of face masks in public spaces of the entity after the recommendation issued by the State Committee for Public Health Safety.
During the ordinary session that took place this Tuesday, the deputies added 25 votes in favor to eliminate said provision, so it will be the health authorities who establish the measures to prevent contagion by COVID-19. The unanimously approved measure will enter into force the day after its publication in the Official Newspaper of the State of Colima.
Yucatan
On May 12, the state of Yucatán became the most recent entity to eliminate the mandatory use of face masks in open spaces, although this preventive measure against the SARS-Cov-2 virus is maintained in most of the country. .
In the southern entity, the use of face masks is maintained for closed spaces and public transport. The agency also specified that preventively, they recommend the use of face masks in older adults, with comorbidities that put their health at risk or who present symptoms of a respiratory disease, detailed in a statement, the state governed by Mauricio Vila .
With the addition of Yucatan, there are already nine states that do not necessarily request the use of this addition, so it is still present at 23.
Jalisco
On May 9, the state of Jalisco decreed that the use of face masks is optional in open spaces, except in schools, daycare centers, hospitals, and public transportation, among others.
“The reality is that the numbers tell us that we are fine, that we have made progress and that the pandemic has been controlled in our state,” Governor Enrique Alfaro Ramírez said in a video posted on his social media on May 9.

On April 24, the state of Nuevo León became the first entity in Mexico to end the mandatory use of face masks in both open and closed spaces. This was announced by Governor Samuel García, after COVID-19 infections have decreased in recent weeks.
“In Nuevo León we always get ahead. That is why, after two complicated years and with a pandemic in between, as of today the use of a face mask is also optional in closed spaces,” the president shared on his Instagram account.

The governor of the state of Guerrero, Evelyn Salgado Pineda, reported on May 9 that the use of face masks will be optional, a determination was made within the State Health Council, although she recommended that citizens attend the vaccination sessions against the illness.
Nayarit
Since March of this year in the entity that Miguel Ángel Navarro governs, the use of face masks is no longer mandatory in open places.
