After approving the first vote on the request to advance the elections for April 2024 raised by Dina BoluarteSeveral political parties have already established a position regarding their participation in the elections that are expected to be held in less than two years. From traditional political organizations such as Popular Force and Popular Actioneven well-known political figures such as Antauro Humala and Verónica Mendoza would tempt a place in the options for the presidency.
Keiko Fujimori would rule out a fourth presidential run
Although she has denied it before and has still applied, the leader of Fuerza Popular would have ruled out the possibility of running for president in new general elections.
Leaders close to Fujimori Higuchi assured journalist David Pereda that many would have tried to change her mind, but Keiko Fujimori is already determined to put aside the race for the Executive.
Instead, starting next year, the Fujimori leader would begin the search for candidates who will participate in the Fuerza Popular presidential formula. The policy also does not rule out the possibility of an alliance.
Hernando de Soto could apply again with Avanza País
In conversation with The Republic; Miguel Yagui, organization secretary of Avanza País, pointed out that although “they had not talked to him (Hernando de Soto) again, nothing is closed.” Therefore, surprises could arise from De Soto in the next elections.
According to Yagui, the departure of the economist from the party to which he was invited in the 2021 elections occurred on the best terms, remaining close to Avanza País “even after resigning.”
However, the party would not only be evaluating De Soto as an option, but “two other interested parties in the presidency” are already being discussed.
Acción Popular would insist on Lescano or would propose two other options
Former presidential candidate Johnny Lescano revealed to La República that he was thinking about the possibility of running for government in elections in 2024.
“We did not do badly and now we can be in better conditions, I feel it when I walk on the street. I am evaluating. It is very possible that we are in the competition”, Lescano asserted to David Pereda.
However, this would not be the only option for the lampa party, which is also evaluating Alfredo Barnechea and Mesías Guevara as reasonable options for the next elections. “There are militants who encourage us, but first I must focus on healing the party and strengthening it,” Guevara warns of this possibility.
Antauro Humala and his two parties in the next elections
While some leftist parties such as Nuevo Perú struggle to form their party for these elections, the ethnocacerista leader Antauro Humala has declared that he is preparing the bases for not one, but two political parties.
The first would be the United Revolutionary Ethnocacerist Party, PERU, in its acronym; while the second would be the organization called the National Alliance of Workers, Farmers, University Students, Reservists, and Workers, better known as “Antauro”, in its acronym.
Although Humala Tasso has shown that he has the support of the reservists in his time in the regions, this popularity has been hampered during his arrival in Lima, where he was booed and insulted after showing himself in favor of the government of President Dina Boluarte.
Mayor-elect, Rafael López Aliaga thought about running for president
As he revealed in some interviews during the electoral campaign for the mayor of Lima, Rafael López Aliaga would have considered the possibility of leaving his position as mayor of the capital not yet assumed to tempt the presidency.
However, according to what was revealed by some sources from Renovación Popular, the party he leads, López Aliaga has finally decided to assume the post he recently won in October of this year.
The leftist politician Verónika Mendoza would continue trying to bet on her own party, Nuevo Perú, which has changed its name to New Peru for Good Living in search of more chances to participate in the next presidential elections.
