Through the cataract initiative, some 200 people will benefit from cataract and terygium surgeries in the Torti community in the Chepo district.
The Ministry of Health, through the East Panama Health region, together with the North American foundation Panama Mission, began on January 21 of this year the day of ophthalmological surgeries, which is taking place at the Minsa Capsi de Tortí and which Ends this Wednesday, January 25.
The First Lady of the Republic, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, made a tour of this Minsa capsi in the company of the Minister of Health Luis Francisco Sucre and assured that “on this day 200 cataract and terigium surgeries are being carried out, an operation that is being carried out manually and not with laser, we are very happy because this foundation is helping to restore sight to these people, which could be almost a miracle”.
Por su Sucre, he pointed out that with the support of the Social Security Fund and the Minsa, these ophthalmological surgeries are being carried out, which are in very high demand in our country and with the support of this North American organization Panama Mission, which seeks to support the national government and to the population that needs it.
“It is planned to carry out another day of surgeries in the coming months, since we have captured a large number of patients from the eastern area, including from Darién, who need to undergo surgery and therefore decrease the surgical delay,” said Sucre.
In addition to ophthalmological surgeries and lens deliveries, the Minsa Capsi in Tortí was providing general medicine and dentistry services.
This day has the support of the office of the First Lady of the Republic, Senafront, Social Security Fund, University of Panama – Tortí extension, Ministry of Social Development (Mides), Red Cross, Municipality of Chepo, Ministry of Housing (Mivi ) and the Agricultural Insurance Institute (ISA).
