In the US, alleged capture of El Mini Lic

This Friday, a man was arrested in the United States. high value subjectwhich the authorities of that country seek to confirm if it is the alleged drug trafficker Dámaso López Serrano, The Mini Lic. As of the closing of this edition, neither the Mexican nor the American authorities have officially confirmed whether it is that character.

According to previous reports, López Serrano would have been re-arrested in Virginia, United States, accused of fentanyl trafficking, after remaining provisionally free in that country.

As reported on these pages, The Mini Lic has been identified as one of the alleged perpetrators of the murder of reporter Javier Valdez Cárdenas – correspondent of The Day in Sinaloa–, which occurred on May 15, 2017.

Protected witness

Two months after Valdez’s murder, López Serrano turned himself in to DEA personnel and became a protected witness. He was sentenced in 2022 to 72 months in prison, and records from the United States Federal Bureau of Prisons indicate that he left the California prison where he was held.

The Mexican government has insisted that the alleged drug trafficker be extradited to the Mexican Republic so that he can be tried for the murder of the journalist.

Federal sources consulted by this newspaper indicated that the FBI is still trying to determine if the high value subject arrested yesterday in Virginia, it is effectively López Serrano.
