Bolivia reported 4,934 cases of coronavirus on Tuesday, a record in the pandemic. The Minister of Health, Jeyson Auza, assured that the omicron variant is not present in the country.
“To date, we can affirm with forcefulness that of all the samples taken, omicron has not yet been detected in the country,” said the sector authority in an interview on Cadena A.
In the last hours, health officials from Cochabamba have reported “suspicious cases” linked to this variant.
Auza questioned that kind of information and said: “There are geniuses at the clinic, sorry for the sarcasm.”

“I can’t say: ‘because of its symptoms it makes me think it’s omicron,'” he said after explaining that the presence of the mutation cannot be determined with just a clinical evaluation.
The minister attributed the increase in cases to the “relaxation” of the use of biosecurity measures.
“If all Bolivians assume responsibility in this regard, we will efficiently overcome the pandemic, if we all go to the vaccination centers,” he said.
