In the middle of Holy Week they denounce a shortage of hosts in churches due to inflation

Living the annual liturgical celebrationthousands of Colombians get ready to attend the different ceremonies held in the country’s churches.

Nevertheless, the community of the Catholic Church has a concern to be able to fulfill religious commitments as this important week deserves.

Luis Fernando Cuartas, theologian, in dialogue with a national media outlet, stated that in the group they have problems to stock up on hostssince the bags that they bought for 9,000 pesos are now at $12,000.

“Inflation has affected shipments because the price of commercial houses that carry them rose a lot, we need about 60,000 hosts very urgently that they arrive as soon as possible,” said Cuartas.

For its part, The Churches have launched a campaign to help the areas most affected by this situation. For example, the Archdiocese of Medellín, which has more than 200 parishes, prisons, orphanages, seminaries and asylums, suffers from great product shortage.

“Caldas, Jericó and the northeast of Antioquia, up to the limits with Norte de Santander, we have also sent to Monte Libano and we cover all of Chocó through the Diocese of Quibdó and Istmina Tadó”, added the theologian.

Finally, the biggest concern is not being able to cover the departments of La Guajira and Amazonas because of the distance, because the high costs for shipping are added to the increase in the price of the hosts.
