At least two MAS assembly members are betting that the former president and head of the party, Evo Morales, should go to trial as recommended in the merits report of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) for extrajudicial executions and torture committed in the operation carried out in April 2009 at the Las Américas hotel, in which three people died and two were arrested. In the ruling party, the majority avoid commenting on the fact and do not play for it.
The report, which was released last Sunday, makes Morales uncomfortable. The former president complained on his social networks that there are people within his political instrument who “hug him from the front and kiss him, and kick him from behind.”

Assemblyman Rolando Cuéllar declared yesterday “yes (some MAS leader) commits a crime of violation of human rights, he will have to answer. This government will not cover up anyone, not even those who are denounced for corruption and even rape. If there is a report from the IACHR, let the law be followed. Here we are not going to put our hands in the fire for Evo Morales, if that instance requests it, he must be prosecuted ”.

For his part, his colleague from MAS, Andrés Flores, went further and asked President Luis Arce initiate a trial of responsibilities against the former president and leader of his party “and several former ministers for what happened at the Las Américas hotel 13 years ago”, this based on the report issued by the IACHR.

“The current management will not protect anyone and all those involved will have to answer to justice. I believe that there are responsibilities on this issue, therefore, the former government minister and former president Evo Morales must be summoned to prosecute them.. Our president and the attorney must take action on the matter, ”he said.

The background report of the IACHR, to which this media had access, not only indicates that the Government of Evo Morales committed extrajudicial executions and torture in the intervention in which Eduardo Rózsa, Árpad Magyarosi and Michael Dwyer were killed. He goes further, and sentences that he violated the American Convention because it made preventive detention punitive against Elod Tóásó and Mario Tadicwithout respecting the presumption of innocence or the right to defense.

Other assembly members are more cautious and although the document was widely disseminated, they prefer caution without putting their hands in the fire for Morales. Deputy Juan José Jáuregui declared: “I don’t know the formal recommendation, apart from the headlines you see in the media. I can’t manifest until I know the bottom.”

Along the same lines, Senator Félix Ajpi pointed out that “this report was leaked and nothing unusual other than the official one. As long as the State or the IACHR do not make the document officially known, it is better not to comment. We must act objectively. If there is a report, we will review it when it is official. If it is a wake-up call, it will have to be corrected. But now we cannot say who we could prosecute and who not, it would be disrespectful”, he assured.

On Wednesday, a letter signed by 48 was released to support the former president. “The former ministers and former ministers of State who had the honor of participating in the government of President Evo Morales ratify our patriotic and revolutionary support for the decisions that were made for the good of the unity of the Homeland and our people,” he indicates, referring to the terrorism case. The former Minister of Economy and current president, Luis Arce, did not sign; former foreign minister and current vice president David Choquehuanca. The signature of the former Minister of Justice is missing, Hector Maple and the former Minister of Government and current attorney, Wilfredo Chavez.

The former president spoke yesterday in a speech, and not only on his Twitter account.

The head of the MAS, Evo Morales, reiterated that there are infiltrators within the government of Luis Arce, who dedicate themselves to flattering him from the front, but attack him from behind.
During a public act in Cochabamba, the coca grower leader denounced that some put their interests above conviction with the “political instrument”, although he confirmed that they will always seek unity.
“We are listening every day, the internal right, the external right; even infiltrated our government, attacking us. Some classmates had been so reverse, they kiss me from the front, they hug me, they kick you from behind, they talk,” he said.

Despite this, he cried out for unity: “Not to divide and not surrender, we have never divided, we have not surrendered either, with deaths, wounded we continue the battle,” added the former president, who denounces a “black plan” against him to damage your image.

On Twitter, he said that, since assuming the Presidency, he suffered attacks that put his life at risk, “but we never imagined facing disloyal attacks from politicians who presented themselves as ‘comrades’.” He thanked the support of his bases, wondered why the internal attacks if the enemy is the “coup right”, and claimed: “pfor them, due process and judgment of responsibilities, for our leaders, persecution and investigation ‘in reserve’”.
