Vice President Geraldo Alckmin gathered on Wednesday (20) with president of the Chamber of Deputies, Hugo Motta, to present the priority legislative proposals of the government in defense of Brazilian exports, impacted by Tariff imposed by the United States. Alckmin, who is also Minister of Development, Industry, Commerce and Services, has requested the Motta urgency in processing the projects, in order to preserve the jobs and products affected by the sanctions determined by US leader Donald Trump, and who came into force two weeks ago. He also reported that steel and aluminum products will be relieved in the fare.
Among the proposals presented by the government is the Provisional Measure (MP) that creates the Sovereign Brazil Plan and presents a set of measures to help US -harmed companies over Brazilian exports. The plan includes a credit line of R $ 30 billion for exporters, change in export credit insurance rules and guaranteeing funds, suspension of taxes on imported inputs (Drawback) and government purchases of foodstuffs that are no longer exported.
There is also a complementary bill (PLP) that increases the percentage of federal tax restoration to affected companies, Via Novo Reintegra – Special Regime for Reintegration of Tax Values. This is a tax incentive that allows companies to recover part of the indirect taxes on the production chain of exported products.
“We urgently asked for the two proposals that President Lula forwarded [ao Congresso]. The provisional measure that establishes credit, guarantee fund, government purchases Drawbeck. And the PLP, which establishes reintegration. They establish support to preserve employment and the production of products affected by the 50% rate of Brazilian exporters to the United States, “Alckmin said at a press conference after the meeting.
The vice president also requested support from Hugo Motta in the processing of 15 other bills, which deal with foreign trade, 11 of them are international agreements, which eliminate twisting and reciprocal investments. One of these projects is a commercial agreement with India.
Steel and aluminum
To the press, Alckmin also reported that by US decision-making products that have steel and aluminum components are taxed in accordance with section 232 of the US commercial expansion law, which is applied to all countries except the UK.
“Improves our competitiveness in the industrial area. So if I sell a machine that has steel, this part of the steel is the same with the whole world, because it enters section 232. Fork, knife, everything that has steel and aluminum,” he noted.
By government calculations, the impact of this relief on the tariff covers 6.4% of Brazilian exports to the US, reaching a value of US $ 2.6 billion.
