In the first seven months of this year, the Tocumen International Airport handled 8,769,966 passengers

The Tocumen International Airport has mobilized 8 million 769,966 passengers during the first seven months of the year 2022. While the month of July this year has closed with 1 million 465,761 travelers, which represents 562,355 more passengers compared to the same month of the year 2021.

The movement of the month of July 2022 registered an increase of 157,840 passengers in relation to the previous month, which confirms a solid recovery of the international and local air transport industry, in line with forecasts of a possible closure of the year 2022 with more than 13 million passengers passing through Tocumen, very close to the 2019 passenger record.

Raffoul Arab, general manager of the Tocumen International Airport, indicated that the first half of 2022 began affected by a new wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, however, “we managed to recover the recovery trend from the second quarter with the return of some airlines, the increase in frequencies, the recovery of routes, and especially the confidence of passengers in international travel”, Arab highlighted.

Destinations and markets

Regarding international connections, in the month of July, Tocumen increased direct routes to 83 destinations, through 18 commercial airlines that offer services to the main cities of America and Europe.

The July results also indicate that of the total number of passengers who used the Tocumen terminal, 64% were connecting passengers. In addition, 11,938 aircraft movements were managed in July 2022.

According to data provided by the Department of Statistics of the Tocumen International Airport, the markets with the best regional performance in July were South America with 45%, followed by North America with 29%, the Caribbean with 11%, while Central America contributed with 10%, and European markets contributed a 5% share.

Regional terminals and cargo

As for the cargo terminal, 20,190 metric tons of merchandise were mobilized during the seventh month of the year.

For its part, domestic traffic in the regional terminals managed by the Tocumen International Airport recorded 23,258 travelers and 2,175 aircraft operations in July.
