The Inter-Institutional Committee on Food Safety and the PIL company ruled out changes to the price of milk at a meeting held this Monday in the city of La Paz. Last week, the dairy sector declared a state of emergency and decided to increase the price of milk.

There is currently a shortage of grains. One of the hardest hit sectors is the dairy industry, which on July 24 declared a state of emergency and demanded an update of the prices that the industry pays them, and that this not be less than Bs 4.50 per liter of milk sold.

Fedeple is calling for the current price range set by the Government to be modified or, at any rate, eliminated and for a new one to be designed.

The Government’s position

“We have been able to establish that The price of milk will not changewill continue to be stable as it has been,” said the Vice Minister of Commerce and Domestic Logistics, Grover Lacoa, according to a report by the ABI agency.

Lacoa and the Vice Ministers of Rural and Agricultural Development, Álvaro Mollinedo; and of Defense of User and Consumer Rights, Jorge Silva, as part of the Interinstitutional Committee on Food Safety, participated in the meeting.

The Committee listened to the company’s concerns about the cost of milk production and explained the measures that, for example, the Ministry of Rural Development is applying to promote the production of dairy products.

“We are making assessments to take action and somehow alleviate Those production costs that they say are very high and as a national government, support them,” explained Vice Minister Mollinedo.

According to Vice Minister Silva, there are reports of an increase in the price of milk in the central axis and some other departments and at the meeting it was agreed to access the price lists to take action in the event of an increase “beyond what is authorized.”

“We will access the price list of products of origin, that is, in the factory, which They are then distributed to wholesalers.to carry out retail sales control of these powdered and liquid milk products in different parts of the country,” he explained.

As part of the series of meetings announced last week with this and other productive sectors, the Interinstitutional Committee on Food Safety also plans a meeting with the Departmental Federation of Dairy Farmers in Santa Cruz to “share PIL’s concerns.”
