After the viral complaint about the loss of the kitten ‘Tito’ by Boliviana de Aviación (BoA) on the route between Tarija and Santa Cruz, and that the feline became a trending topic (topic of the moment), the Minister of Works himself Public, Édgar Montaño, and the Authority for the Regulation and Supervision of Telecommunications and Transport (ATT), have the issue under scrutiny. This Wednesday, the latter instructed BoA present plans and actions that they will adopt to optimize the provision of their service within a period of five days.

“Considering the high travel season at the end of the year and evidencing a significant rate of delays and cancellations during this period, the ATT has notified BoA so that within five days they establish an improvement action plan to immediately strengthen the provision of their services. We are going to exercise a control to see the effectiveness of your plan, verifying that the operator complies with a valid percentage in punctuality”, announced the Executive Director of the regulatory entity, Néstor Ríos.

The Bolivian air sector is highly regulated; Regarding delays and cancellations, there is Ministerial Resolution 30/2017 and the “Itinerary Compliance Control Regulation” approved by the ATT. To date, the Regulatory Entity issued a total of 51 sanctioning resolutions for the three national operators Ecojet, BoA and Amaszonas.

In this sense, Ríos emphasized: “There is not a single cancellation or delay in national territory that the ATT does not consider for the purposes of this sanctioning procedure. We are committed not only to exercise control and supervision, but also to adopt measures so that flight delays and cancellations are reduced and an effective public service is provided.

The regulations establish that on a quarterly basis, air operators must report cancellations and delays greater than 30 minutes; In case of evidencing non-compliance with the norm, the Authority initiates processes sanctioners, whose economic fines amount to 30,000 UFVs (approximately Bs 72,000).

Finally, the Executive Director explained that the ATT also exercises control over timely information to the user, bad attention, access to services and other conditions of air transport.
