Thousands march in the DF against amnesty to scammers and shielding PEC

Thousands of people marched this Sunday (21), in the Esplanade of Ministries in Brasilia, to protest against the amnesty projects to scammers and the armor of parliamentarians. Under strong sun, the crowd continued behind a small electric trio, after a battle of rhymes and discourses of political leadership from the Federal District (DF).

The 1.5 -kilometer route went to the head of the National Congress, where singer and songwriter Chico César ended the act singing some of his successes. The act occurred from 9am to 2pm.

With the motto “Enemy Congress of the People”, protesters shouted “no amnesty”; “We want Bolsonaro in jail,” requesting compliance with the former president’s conviction to 27 years and three months in prison. The penalty was determined by the Federal Supreme Courtwho recognized the fault of Bolsonaro and allies in the coup plot who tried to reverse the result of the 2022 elections and culminated in the attacks on the Three Powers Square on January 8, 2023.

The posters also brought words as “without banditry”, in reference The Proposal of Amendment to the Constitution (PEC) dubbed by the act of “PEC of the banditry”also known as the PEC of armor or prerogatives. According to the proposal, the opening of lawsuits against parliamentarians will need to be approved by most of the legislative homes themselves.

Bank Keyla Soares, 42, told the Brazil agency which was outraged by the proposal that requires prior authorization from Parliament to criminally prosecute deputies and senators.

“It’s a shameless. It’s offensive this PEC. They only work in their own defense. Brazil has to come together against it. We are also fighting for democracy,” he said.

The mayor, Deputy Hugo Motta (Republicans-PB), was one of the main targets of the protesters in posters such as “Motta Capacho”; “Centrão thief”; “CCP: First Command of Congress”. As president of the house, Motta is responsible for defining the voting agenda and included PEC and amnesty in last week’s schedule.

Student Sara Santos, 26, said PEC is absurd and was not believed when she learned of approval. For her, parliamentarians just want to protect themselves from justice. The student also criticized the amnesty PL.

“After all that we lived with the military dictatorship, we cannot accept amnesty against those who attacked democracy and tried to give a coup,” he said.

Retired delegate Maria Lúcia de Souza, 62, said former President Jair Bolsonaro, “from the first day of his government,” wanted to take the blow to perpetuate in power.

“They are underestimating our intelligence. He thinks we are dumb. In the week that comes out of alleged involvement of Rueda [presidente do União Brasil] With the CCP, they approve of this banditry PEC. I’m angry, ”he said.

Maria Lúcia refers to the broadcast of reports that point to an alleged connection between the national president of the União Brasil Party, Antonio Rueda, and the criminal organization First Command of the Capital (CCP). Rueda and the party deny the accusations.

For 47-year-old public servant Albert Scott has no amnesty for those who planned and funded attempted coup and defended “rescue our flag” and “our green and yellow colors”, which were “kidnapped” by the far right.

“It’s unacceptable. It’s a setback this PEC. They only vote for themselves to protect themselves from justice. This is absurd,” he said.

Protests across the country

Acts against the amnesty of those convicted of attempted coup d’état and against the armage of the armor occur throughout the country this Sunday. At least 33 cities perform protests, including all capitals.

Called by the fronts without fear and popular Brazil, linked to PSOL, PT and popular movements, the demonstrations were attended by unions, student groups, artists and social movements such as MST and MTST, as well as other left and center left parties.
