In six months, the number of women affiliated with the IMSS tripled compared to men

With data from the IMSS as of October 2024, the number of insured women in the last six years increased 18.7 percent, while that of men increased only 6.6 percent, reported the National Minimum Wages Commission (Conasami).

He pointed out that according to an analysis by his technical direction, of the total of 22 million 532 thousand 925 affiliates as of October, 40.2 percent are women (9 million 66 thousand 310). Thus, he explained, their labor participation in the formal sector of the economy has been increasing in recent years.

He indicated that with seasonally adjusted figures, at an annual rate the number of IMSS affiliates has grown by an average of 2.8, higher than the rate of 0.7 for men.

Of the total insured women, 26.6 percent work in processing industries; 24.4 in services for companies and people; 22.6, in commerce; 15.7, in social and communal services; 4.4, in transportation and communications; 3.6, under construction; 2.1, in agriculture, and only 0.4 are found in the electrical and drinking water supply industries, and 0.2 percent in the extractive industries.

He noted that regarding the average contribution base salary, in the last month they reported 537.29 pesos per day; in comparison, men had 609.59.

Conasami added that although their salary is still higher, they are the ones who have seen their earnings grow to a greater extent, such that the progress in the last year has been 4.6 and 3.9 percent in real terms in both cases; If compared to the end of 2018, the female sector has had an average real salary increase of 19.4 percent and the male sector of 18.7, with figures adjusted for seasonality.
