In Santiago del Estero the thermal sensation exceeded 43 degrees

In Santiago del Estero the thermal sensation climbed to 43.6 degrees at midday.

The high temperatures do not give rest to Santiago del Estero and, after noon, the wind chill marked more than 43 degreesaccording to the National Weather Service.

Engineer Howard van Meer, in charge of INTA’s Provincial Delegation of Agrometeorology -in dialogue with Télam- said that “high temperatures are likely to continue” since “we are in the time of the La Niña phenomenon and it is characterized by the lack of clouds, and it is the clouds that can attenuate the temperatures a bit”.

“We have extreme temperatures due to La Niña, with days of 45 degrees”Howard van Meer, INTA Agrometeorology

At 12, the National Meteorological Service indicated that in Santiago del Estero the temperature was 36.8 degreeswhile the wind chill reached 43.6 and also issued a yellow alert for storms.

In this way, the SMN forecasts rains and storms of varying intensity for the afternoon-night, some locally strong for the departments of Atamisqui, Banda, Capital, Choya, Loreto, Ojo de Agua, Robles, San Martín and Silípica.

It also indicates that they may be accompanied by strong gusts of wind, occasional hail, strong electrical activity and fundamentally abundant waterfall in short periods.

Regarding the thermal sensation that is registered well above 40 in the province, the specialist explained that “it not only takes into account the temperature but the humidity of the environmentthen when the humidity increases the thermal sensation rises and the wind also influences, since there are other variables”.

“It feels heavier and it’s precisely because of the humidity,” he added, commenting that “on the side of Ojo de Agua (in the south of the province, on the border with Córdoba) there is already an area of cloudiness, so from 4:00 p.m. will arrive in the Capital (Santiagueña)”.

“Then this may bring a little relief, we will have lower temperaturenot much more, because no matter how much it rains, it will not be a sudden or resounding change,” he said.

“We can have hot days until April or mid-May”Howard van Meer, INTA Agrometeorology

“The real change will be on Thursday, there the temperature will drop considerably for Friday and on Tuesday of next week the extreme temperatures will begin to loosen a bit,” he said.

Since he added that “we are not going to have temperatures like the ones we had in december 45 degreesbut we can have high temperatures” in the coming days.

At the same time, he commented that “this year we have had extreme temperatures due to La Niña, since there were several days with 45 degrees, that even in Santiago del Estero it is not normal to have those temperatures.”

Finally, he maintained that “we can have hot days until April or mid-Maynot this extreme heat, but hot days and at night I would have to loosen up”.
