Cancun, QR. entered into force on new tourism regulations in the statewhich provides for fines of up to 5,000 pesos for providers of tourist services that are not registered on the platform Return-Q.
This was published last Wednesday, February 15 in the Official Newspaper of Quintana Roo, according to which the foreseen infractions derive from providing false information in the registry, not showing the public the proof of registration or opposing the inspection to corroborate the veracity of the data, among others.
The Retur-Q is a free but mandatory digital platform that seeks, among other things, to become a mechanism that helps reduce fraud among those who purchase tourist services, guaranteeing that those who are registered have a physical address and are legally constituted companies.
In this regard, the business community of Cancun requests that the mandatory tourist registration (Retur-Q) does not become a collection instrument or serve only to impose fines on tourist service providers.
Julio Villarreal Zapata, assured that this and other concerns have already been raised by the state Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, who was told that it is necessary to anticipate who will make the revisions provided for in the tourism regulations, since currently the Secretary of Quintana Roo Tourism (Sedetur) lacks personnel, so it is not desirable that the inspectors of the Tax Administration Service be in charge of this work and this undermines the ultimate purpose of the registry.
Another concern is that during election days and the imposition of the Prohibition Law, only tourist areas are excluded from the prohibition on selling alcohol, however, those service providers that register with the Retur-Q can claim that they are also providers of services in a tourist area and assume that they can also sell alcohol, regardless of whether they are not in the hotel zone from Cancun, Playa del Carmen or Tulum.
“We only ask that it be very clear what scope the registry has,” explained the businessman. The Return-Q it was released from august 2022but only until this Thursday, February 16, 2023, it became mandatory.
In this regard, the head of Sedetur, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, commented that the intention of this tool is to promote the productivity and competitiveness of companies.
Within the benefits of Retur-Q, he mentioned the improvement of the image and positioning of the services, the promotion of these through institutional platforms, catalogs and official guides; the projection of certainty and security to consumersaccess to programs to strengthen the tourist offer and location in the GeoPortal of the Secretary of Tourism of Quintana Roo, in order to continue with the development and management of tourism in the Mexican Caribbean.
