Families from the Sata community, in Guarulhos, in Greater São Paulo, blocked, early this morning (31), a stretch of Presidente Dutra Highway, at kilometer 213. The protest is for better housing conditions. The highway was partially blocked around 9 am, according to the Military Police.
According to the mayor’s office, the community is at “a high risk of flooding and the collapse of houses.” At the site, 23 houses were built over drainage ditches, and residents were notified two months ago about the need to vacate, informed the municipal government.
The group set fire to objects to prevent cars from passing through the local road, towards the capital of São Paulo, and held up posters asking for the evictions to be suspended, considering that they have been in the area for 40 years.
