In nine educational centers and one entity of the Government of Portuguesa, cases of massive poisoning have been recorded due to inhalation or contact with an unknown substance that causes fainting, dizziness, irritation of the eyes, nose and throat and even convulsions.
The most recent incidents occurred this Tuesday, November 19, at the Félix Angulo Ariza high school and the Ciudad de Guanare school, both in Guanare. Seven people were affected, including staff from the institutions and students who were helped by Civil Protection and Fire Department officials.
The security agencies were present at the campuses to “gather information that will allow them to find those responsible for the poisoning,” reported the Secretariat of Citizen Security on its Telegram channel.
The situation has been occurring in Portuguesa since last November 7 and there are already approximately 200 intoxicated people. The first case was registered in Turén, at the June 27 high school, and the authorities reported the arrest of three citizens, including two students of the institution, for being the alleged perpetrators of the incident.
Then a similar event was reported in San Rafael de Onoto, in Guanarito there are two and in Guanare there are already six, one of them at the headquarters of the Secretariat of Economic Development of the Government. The civil and military authorities of the state are deployed in the institutions, providing security to educational personnel and students, and have promised to be forceful with those responsible for these actions that threaten peace and the right to education of the Portuguese people.
