In Penonomé they ask for a solution to the smoke that emanates from the landfill, residents report health conditions

Since 5 in the morning, residents of the community of El Coco in Penonomé closed a busy road in this district, in the province of Coclé, due to a problem that is causing damage to their health.

According to the protesters, who kept the road that leads to Coco and Miraflores in Penonomé closed for more than 4 hours, the smoke that emanates from the waste dump is causing health problems and the authorities do not give them an answer.

They highlighted that the landfill has been smoking for more than six days because it was set on fire and no authority has dealt with this problem, while families in this community must breathe the smoke contaminated by the waste.

According to the mayor of the district of Penonomé, Paula González, they are contracting by Notorious Urgency to respond to the residents and assured that on Monday when officials of the entity went to carry out an evaluation of the fire, they found that the fire could have been provoked by people outside the landfill, since they found cut wires in the back (they entered through that place).

González recalled that this smoke not only affects the residents of the area but also the officials who work and enter the area. He asked the citizens to remain calm since they are working on giving them an answer.

The closure in Penonomé affected students and speakers who traveled to their schools and jobs, due to the heavy traffic that was registered in the place.
