The device was launched into space on the night of Friday, April 14 in a rocket from Elon Musk’s SpaceX company, which has been successful and becomes the second Colombian satellite in orbit.

This Facsat-2 Chiribiquete satellite, had a development that took more than two years and its value of 3,400 million was confined between the Government, Ecopetrol and the Colombian Air Force.

“The orbit placement will allow the generation of new capacities as a result of activities in science, technology and information,” said Arturo Luna, science portfolio.

This device will allow obtaining data and photos of key issues such as vegetation, deforestation, fire detection, water analysis, infrastructure, territorial planning, among others.

Likewise, it will have more tools to combat clandestine businesses such as illegal mining and smuggling.

The Facsat-2 Chiribiquete satellite also has a spectrometer that will allow constant monitoring of the presence and emission of greenhouse gases in the country.

Therefore, it will allow to characterize the emission sources and be able to make strategies to reduce said levels.
