There are only days left for the Christmas and New Year’s Eve celebrations, so, from now on, Argentine families anticipate what to prepare next. Christmas dinnerwhich this year had a strong increase.
According to the survey carried out by the Neighborhood Price Index (IBP), a Christmas dinner for a family of four members this year will cost an average of $6,785, when last year the same family paid for meal during the festivities $3,089.
However, the price of the Christmas dinner it varies according to the type of food that is consumed, since the $6,785 is equivalent to a 2k and a half chicken; while, if a 2kg strip of roast is consumed, the value rises to $8,060.
For the roast strip, last year a family paid an average of $4,254, that is to say that both menus (the most typical for the festivities) had an increase of 120% this year.
Among the products that are most consumed during the Christmas celebrations are suckling pig, chicken and roast, which had an increase of 76.46%, 80.05% and 63.06%, respectively.
Additionally, another of the typical dishes for these dates, such as potato and egg salad, also suffered a 159.09% increase; while French fries rose 173.71% and lettuce and tomato salad, 142.70%.
In addition, the Christmas basket had an increase of 113% in the last year, since the average cost amounted to $5,567since, of the 16 products that make up the basket, some such as peach cans had an increase of 102.45% and sugared almonds had an increase of 174.75%.
