During the month of October 2021, 443,018 non-residents arrived in the Dominican Republic. This represents 220% compared to October 2020, 19% to October 2019 and 7% above the same month, but 2018.
“We can say that October 2021 is the best October in the history of tourism in the Dominican Republic. There was evidence of a sustainable recovery of tourism under the efforts of the public-private sectors, where with destinations such as Canada, France and England closed and not working at its maximum expression, the Dominican Republic places the month of October 2021, the best month for tourism in our country ”, said Collado.
The minister said that of the 443,018 non-residents, 349,381 are foreigners and 93,638 are Dominican. Of the foreigners, 44% come from North America and 35% are of European nationality.
The head of the tourism portfolio indicated that in the January-October period the country received 3,669,761 non-resident passengers.
“The recovery of our tourism is constant and solid. Today I announce that October registered the highest growth of that month in history, “said the official when presenting the figures for the month of October at a press conference at the Intercontinental hotel in this city.
Collado explained that the airports of Punta Cana, Las Américas, El Cibao, La Romana and La Isabela are already above the records of October 2019. The arrival of non-residents at the Punta Cana airport grew by 120%, Las Américas by 110 %, Cibao 112%, Puerto Plata 93%, La Romana grew 235%, El Catey, Samaná 72% and at La Isabela airport the arrival of non-residents registered a growth of 194%.
He explained that 76% of the arrivals of non-residents to the Dominican Republic were concentrated in the Las Américas and Punta Cana airports.
“In the first six months, tourism in the Dominican Republic was supported by the Americans, it was up to 80% until June-July, the country with the highest emission to the Dominican Republic and now we can see that it is being distributed and United States United is 40%, ”said Collado.
Likewise, he pointed out that during the month of September 2021, Dominican formal employees amounted to 181,078 distributed in 7,970 formal companies. In addition, the sector’s labor market experienced variations of 86,457 in terms of employees compared to the September 2020 record, and 1,781 companies. He pointed out that the growth in the number of jobs was registered mainly in lodging establishments with more than 41,468 and in food and beverage outlets with more than 37,391.
Also, during the month of October 2021, seven tourism projects were approved with an estimated investment of more than US $ 211 million. Among these projects there are mixed hotels and tourism, which will have a capacity of 1,042 new rooms and 1,194 remodeled. It includes a theme park and three provisional classifications with 560 future rooms, and new construction.
