In March, energy demand grew 4.83%

The electricity demand in the month of March 2022 increased by
4.83% compared to the same month of 2021, in which demand had grown by 3.61%. This was reported by the operator of the National Interconnected System (SIN), and the administrator of the Wholesale Energy Market (MEM).

In March, the demand for energy grew 4.83% compared to the same month of 2021, the agents of the electricity sector generated 6,468 GWh, 62 GWh were imported from Ecuador, thus allowing us to supply the energy that Colombians need during the month. The behavior of energy demand continues its growth path in the country, being one of the indicators that reflects the economic recovery in the different regions. Currently there are no evidence of risks for meeting demand in the medium term, because despite the summer season in recent months, the levels of energy reservoirs closed March at 57.4%. With the start of the rainy season, the gradual recovery of these levels is expected,” according to Jaime Alejandro Zapata Uribe, manager of the XM National Dispatch Center.

Discriminated by type of demand, in the residential consumption and small businesses (regulated market) there was a growth of 3.16%; For its part, the consumption of industry and commerce (unregulated market) increased by 8.46% compared to the same month of the previous year.

In March, Guaviare was the region of the country with the highest growth in demand for
electrical energy with 8.01%, followed by Centro with 6.38%, Antioquia with 5.21%, THC
(Tolima, Huila, Caquetá) with 4.94%, CQR (Caldas, Quindío and Risaralda) with 4.56%,
Caribbean with 4.44%, East with 3.83%, Chocó with 2.01% and South with 0.94%.
