More than 400 firearms have been taken from the streets of the country so far in 2022. According to Security Minister Juan Manuel Pino, this has prevented other crimes from being committed.
“Not two months have passed so far this year and we have already taken 484 firearms off the streets, outside of the Pacifying my Neighborhood program,” he said, assuring that they are going to acquire a shredder to destroy the weapons that are seized and with this material build a monument to peace.
Pino’s statements were made during the ceremony for the destruction of some 1,016 firearms of various calibers.
Through the Pacifying my Neighborhood program, 112 thousand balboas have been paid in vouchers redeemable in supermarkets. People have voluntarily handed over 412 weapons, 1,986 ammunition, 193 suppliers, 353 explosives and 36 accessories.
