The Mayor’s Office of La Paz inaugurated this Sunday a mega pavilion in the General Cemetery that has 588 niches and 1,071 sarcophagi. The work is named after “Doctor René Fernando Sahonero”, who died in May 2021, shortly after assuming the Municipal Secretary of Comprehensive Health and Sports of the Mayor’s Office of La Paz.

“We have done this in homage to our great friend René Sahonero, it is a mega-pavilion that we began to build just when he left us last year; he left and we decided to put his man on it. Now the Cemetery has this mega-pavilion that was built with an investment of 2.8 million Bolivians,” said Mayor Iván Arias, after attending mass for Palm Sunday in the churchyard church.

Arias also highlighted the quality of person of the deceased. “René had people skills, the ability to be humble and very professional; he had clear ideas, he had the gift of listening and doing things with love and firmness, that is the gift of people he loved, “he said.

The mayor reported that the mega pavilion is part of the modernization of the cemetery with the purpose of making the necropolis more attractive to attract tourists.
