The Jesús María Semprún Municipality of Zulia has been headless since the end of January when the mayor Keyrineth Fernández was arrested
The Venezuelan Observatory of Social Conflict (OVCS) reported on its social networks that on Thursday, April 21, there was a confrontation between the inhabitants of the Jesús María Semprún municipality in Zulia state with officials from the Bolivarian National Police (PNB) and the National Guard ( GN) to demand new elections in that jurisdiction.
The action left at least 10 police officers injured and another undetermined number of protesters in the El Cruce sector; a protest that has lasted more than 11 days with the closure of Troncal 6, Machiques-Colón highway. Since Wednesday the 20th there have been clashes between the communities and those who block the road.
It must be remembered that at the end of January of this year the mayor of that municipality was arrested, Keyrineth Fernandez, when he was traveling in a truck through the state of Falcón with a package of 7.1 kilos of alleged drugs. Since then, that jurisdiction does not have the corresponding authority and arbitrariness has been recorded against the Wayúu and Barí indigenous communities.

About 300 officials were acting in the area who, with tear gas, tried to disperse those present. In videos broadcast by citizens, you can see how they confront the police throwing stones and pots.
The idea was to clear the road to allow the passage of food produced in the area of the South of the Lake. In principle, the protest was led by representatives of the aforementioned indigenous ethnic groups, but it was reported that people unrelated to the claims have infiltrated.
