This Monday, September 26, Venezuela and Colombia officially reopened their border. A symbolic gesture previously marked the meeting of the two nations with a hug at the border between the authorities present from both countries, including the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, and the Minister of Transportation of Venezuela, Ramón Velásquez Araguayán.

Yesterday’s reopening of the Colombian-Venezuelan border marks a new beginning for relations between the two countries.

Here it is shown how the mobilization has been during the second day for the border crossing by the Simón Bolívar international bridge where Venezuelans and Colombians cross to carry out their daily activities.

Parlatino celebrates the opening of the Venezuela-Colombia border

The president of the Venezuelan Parliamentary Group of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (GPVPLC), deputy Ángel Rodríguez, expressed his satisfaction with the opening of the border between Colombia and Venezuela, an initiative that will bring well-being and productivity for both nations, the State channel reported.

Likewise, he acknowledged the willingness shown by both governments to restore the good relations that have historically characterized these sister nations “we are sure that with the opening of the border between Colombia and Venezuela the productive apparatus will be reactivated and therefore the economy and employment.

The parliamentarian condemns that in the last three years relations between the two nations have been suspended as a result of the political war unleashed by the former president of Colombia, Iván Duque, against Venezuela.

Rodríguez reiterated that on the part of the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, and his government there is a full will to work for a renewed stage of comprehensive relations with Colombia.

“We trust that, like Venezuela, the government of President Gustavo Petro will make its best effort to maintain cordial relations within the framework of respect and solidarity with Venezuela,” he assured.

Since 2020, relations between Colombia and Venezuela have been suspended for political reasons, which considerably affected the economy and the socio-family coexistence of both nations.

Commercial exchange between Colombia and Venezuela will be progressive

According to the deputy to the National Assembly (AN) for the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Roy Daza, Venezuela and Colombia are progressively moving towards a recovery of commercial exchange after the “historic” opening of the border that occurred on September 26 .

During an interview given to Sputnik The Parliamentarian assured that it is constituted as a historical fact because with the breakdown of diplomacy between the two countries in 2019, the commercial exchange was located at “zero”.

“I would say that we are going to a progressive recovery of the commercial exchange between Colombia and Venezuela, on that the step of the opening of the border, I agree with the president, it is a historical fact”, indicated the member of the Permanent Commission of Foreign Policy of the National Assembly.

The parliamentarian added that in relation to the figures and projections it is necessary to be moderate, and estimated that by 2023 it is possible that some 2,000 million dollars will be generated as a result of the commercial exchange between both countries, which he considered will impact the Venezuelan market and Colombian.

“My calculation is that we can close next year being moderate at 2,000 million dollars, that is a large figure, which of course will impact the Venezuelan internal market and will also impact the market, at least, in the eastern part. from Colombia,” he said.

Likewise, Daza said that the main challenge at this time is to overcome the blockade, and affirmed that, if in the independence era both countries achieved the defeat of an empire, today they will overcome the blockade.

“The first challenge will continue to be the blockade, but if at the time of independence we New Granadans and Venezuelans managed to defeat an empire, we are also going to defeat this one and we are going to overcome the blockade, in many ways,” he said.

Lastly, the Deputy added that the opening of the trade relationship between Colombia and Venezuela is a political defeat for the Venezuelan extreme right, which did not bet on the consolidation of this process.

“Those who act against, from the political point of view, at this time, what happened yesterday [26 de septiembre, apertura de frontera] It is a defeat for the right and far right in Venezuela, which has always opposed a process like this to work,” he argued.
