The criminal guarantee judge Clara Ruíz Díaz decreed the house arrest of three people prosecuted for the irregular exploitation of games of chance.
At the hearing for the imposition of measures, it was ordered that Carmen Carolina Duarte, Gerardo Bermúdez Arreola and Erik Fernando Martin Vázquez, directors of the firms Montego Trading SA and Crown City Online Paraguay SA, respectively, accused of violating Law No. 4716/12 ” That establishes the legal regime for the exploitation of games of chance”, keep them under house arrest.
In the same way, the preliminary hearing began where it will be defined if the three defendants will face the oral and public trial for the exploitation of clandestine sports bets. At the beginning of the judicial proceeding, the defense of the defendants presented an incident that should be studied by the judge. The Public Ministry ratified his accusation and requested that he be brought to trial.
The accusation of the Public Ministry and request for an oral and public trial states that the directors of the firms Montego Trading SA and Crown City irregularly offered sports bets for which they incurred the punishable act of violating Law No. 4716/12 “That establishes the legal regime for the exploitation of games of chance”.
The document also indicates that there is sufficient evidence against each of the defendants to be able to reach a conviction. They also mention that the firm Montego Trading SA, despite the fact that it could no longer offer sports betting, continued to operate in new premises with the Crown City brand despite the fact that there was an express prohibition on operating. To this is attached several reports from the Conajzar in which it is confirmed that the aforementioned firm could not offer sports betting games.
It also points out that the only company that has the exclusivity to offer sports betting games is Daruma SAM SA, with its Apostala brand. The aforementioned firm filed an adhesive complaint in this criminal proceeding.
