The school ship “Simón Bolívar”, of the Venezuelan Navy, arrived at the port of Havana this Saturday morning.
At the entrance of the ship to the bay, 21 salutes were fired from the visiting ship, reciprocated by a FAR artillery battery from the San Carlos de La Cabaña Fortress.
The crew will fulfill a program of activities that includes visits to the Governor of Havana, the head of the Revolutionary Navy, and places of historical and cultural interest.
The ship “Simón Bolívar” has as its fundamental mission to train the cadets of the Venezuelan Naval School and internationally establish and strengthen friendship ties with the Navies of other countries.
It was built at the request of the Venezuelan Navy in 1978 and thrown into the water November 21 of 1979 .
In 2002 entered for the first time in a process of major maintenance and reconstruction of the hull and its structure in order to improve its conditions.
Havanans will be able to visit it on May 14, 15 and 16, from 10:00 am to 8:00 pm.
