In times of growing tension between Cuba and the USthe island’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodríguez, traveled to Vietnam and met with the highest authorities of that country.

Bruno Rodríguez also met this Monday with the general secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (PCV) and top Vietnamese leader, To Lam.
According to the official Vietnamese press, the leader of that country ratified his support for the Cuban Government, after the president of the United States, Donald Trump, activated last week an executive order that punishes with tariffs any country that sends crude oil to the island and has increased pressure on Havana after the events at the beginning of the year in Venezuela.
To Lam, who was recently re-elected, advocated for “the lifting of unilateral blockade and sanctions measures” against the island and reiterated that Vietnam “is willing to support Cuba within its capabilities to overcome difficulties and promote the country’s development.”

Vietnam, a country that defends neutrality in its foreign relations by virtue of the so-called “bamboo diplomacy,” has become Cuba’s second trading partner and the main Asia-Pacific investor in the island, with which it maintains a trade exchange of around $340 million, according to official data for 2023.
