Fluminense will face Ceará, starting at 7 pm (Brasilia time) this Saturday (9), in a game for the 16th round of the Brazilian Championship that will go down in history for being the last in the career of striker Fred. THE National Radio broadcast the match live.
Despite all the expectations surrounding the goodbye to shirt 9, Tricolor knows that winning is essential to continue climbing the competition’s classification. The team led by coach Fernando Diniz arrives at a great moment, occupying the 6th position with 24 points and trying to reach the fifth consecutive victory (after three triumphs for the Brazilian and one for the Copa do Brasil).

Having a full week to work and without injury or suspension problems, the expectation is that the Tricolor commander will repeat the team that thrashed Corinthians 4-0 last Saturday, with the only novelty being the return of midfielder Nonato, who fulfilled suspension: Fabio; Samuel Xavier, Nino, Manoel and Caio Paulista; André, Nonato (Martinelli), Ganso and Arias; Matheus Martins and Cano.
A possible presence of Fred among the starters would be a surprise, especially considering that he would replace Fluminense’s top scorer this season, Cano. But Diniz left the possibility up in the air at a press conference: “The game is worth three points. Fred came in and scored [contra o Corinthians] It’s not because you’re at home resting. He has been preparing for this moment for a month. So he is an option.”
If for Fluminense the game has a festive character, for Ceará (which is 15th with 18 points) it is an opportunity to try to get away from the relegation zone of the competition. For this, Vozão has to resume the path of victories (after five consecutive draws).

“It’s all very tangled up and we can’t let our guard down. A stumble can complicate us and a win can put us in the first half of the table. We made mistakes in some games, we could be higher in the classification, but now it’s time to look for that victory to get the best possible place in the leaderboard”, declared midfielder Lima.
An inspiration for the team led by coach Marquinhos Santos is Ceará’s own campaign in the Sudamericana, where it reached the quarterfinals this week after defeating The Strongest (Bolivia) 3-0 last Wednesday (6th).
