After the recent ratification of the European Parliament to give it category of green energy source to natural gas on the list of environmentally sustainable economic activities, known as the ‘EU Taxonomy’, this type of energy is confirmed as an ally of the planet and of our country to successfully advance towards energy transition and carbon neutrality.

This thanks to its high availability and important environmental benefits translated into reductions of up to 99% of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) Y sulfur oxides, a 70% reduction in nitrogen dioxides; and, at the level of climate change, its combustion represents reductions of between 30% and 50% of carbon dioxide compared to other fuels (fuel oil, coal, firewood, gasoline and diesel).
In the vote of the European Parliament, in which more than 600 deputies representing 27 Member States of the European Union participated, it was decided to give the green label to the gas industry with a worldwide impact.
The euro parliament considered natural gas as a CO2-free energy source, crucial to achieve the carbon neutrality objectives, agreed at COP26, which Colombia also signed in 2021.

From the Colombian Association of Natural Gas (Naturgas), they celebrate this statement that confirms the sustainability of natural gas and will guide future investments for the energy transition.
In this regard, its president, Luz Stella Murgas, stated: “This resolution represents a milestone for our industry, which will make it easier for us to multiply our efforts throughout the world to reduce our carbon footprint and achieve global commitments towards carbon neutrality in 2050, strengthening the sustainable production of this clean energy, capable of providing a better quality of life in cities for current and future generations”.

Thanks to this decision, natural gas, hydrogen, among other renewable energies, will help reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the electricity sector by 30%, and makes natural gas an imminent solution to decarbonization projected for 2030 and 2050.
