In responding to how it is possible to survive in politics without losing humanity, she said that this has been a constant concern since the beginning of her career.
“My first reaction was to take my humanity, was trying to close me on hearts, protect me from the labels that put me, work violently to prove that I was not a beautiful face, as they tried to say,” he recalled.
According to her, motherhood played a decisive role to reverse this movement.
Manuela also commented on Gender violence in politics institutional and deliberate strategy of the far right to intimidate women in public positions.
“These women are given a choice: either they will talk about the threats they suffer or they will have mandate. It’s humanly impossible to reconcile both. And I can say that in the first person, I know what it is to go to parliament, close my eye and think, I won’t talk about death or rape that my daughter suffered, because I need to talk about budget,” he said.
President of the Institute If it was you, the former parliamentarian coordinates a reception duty for women victims of violence in the public sphere and leads the Women in Fighting (Mel) movement, which seeks to form new leaders with a “women’s agenda to Brazil”.
Wide front
Questioned about the current government and the political scenario for 2026, Manuela defended the continuity of the broad front as a tool for confrontation to the far right. For her, the error of the left in recent years has been giving up the dispute of values.
“We declined electorally, territorially, because we stopped disputing values,” he said.
Currently without party affiliation, Manuela revealed that she intends to join a subtitle, although it has not yet decided which one.
“I want to have a party again. That’s my wish. […] Having a party again does not mean that I will compete again for the elections. It means that I will return to military, to dispute theoretically, socially, the conscience of our people, ”he said.
