In Desaguadero, service hours for carriers are extended after eight days of blockade

After eight days of blockade, the Bolivian and Peruvian Customs authorities decided to extend the service hours for transport operators in Desaguadero until 03:00 in the morning, in order to facilitate the import and export of goods through that route, says a report from the ABI agency.

This agreement was achieved thanks to the efforts of the executive president of the Bolivian National Customs (ANB), Karina Serrudo, with the National Superintendent of Customs of Peru, Luis Enrique Vera.

According to information from the National Customs, the entities that will join this extension of hours are the National Agricultural Health and Food Safety Service (Senasag), the General Directorate of Migration, the National Superintendence of Customs and Tax Administration (SUNAT) from Peru and the Binational Border Attention Center (CEBAF) of Peru; that will attend until 02:00, in Peruvian time and 03:00 in Bolivian time.

Until noon on Saturday, March 26, the entry of 463 trucks into Bolivian territory with imported merchandise was handled. In the afternoon, the export process was streamlined, so 496 trucks with merchandise and 41 empty trucks, that is, 536 motorized cargo trucks, were able to enter Peruvian territory normally.

During the night and the following days, shifts will continue to be made for the entry and exit of motorized vehicles on the route, avoiding congestion and speeding up the process both on the part of the Bolivian Customs and its counterpart in Peru.

These arduous logistics tasks managed by the National Customs are proving to be a success in the decongestion of the road to Desaguadero, thus reactivating the normal traffic of foreign trade motorized vehicles, ”says the ANB report.

The measure of extension of hours will be evaluated this Sunday, according to the number of motorized to continue waiting for a crossing of the border between Peru and Bolivia, to consider whether it is necessary to extend the opening hours for more days.
