MIAMI, United States. — As if the mentions of the US blockade were not enough to justify the economic and social crisis that is hitting Cuba, the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel now assured that there is a “mental blockade” on the island that slows down the development of the country.
During a recent visit to Pinar del Río, the president-designate insisted on the need for the province to produce more food and not focus only on the tobacco industry.
“There is a blockade that is real and objective, that does us a lot of damage and we denounce it in all scenarios, but there is another that is mental and we have to break it in order to advance in development. These meetings are also to break that blockade,” Díaz-Canel said in statements collected by the Presidency of Cuba website.
On the issue of food in Pinar del Río, the president called to “take advantage of idle land, create a greater culture in the use of agroecology, and promote local production systems.”

In recent years, Díaz-Canel has tried in different ways to justify the collapse of the Cuban economy, diminished for decades due to the mismanagement of the Castro regime. In this sense, the COVID-19 pandemic and the embargo imposed by the US have been the alibis used by the successor to Raúl Castro.
Recently, also the first secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) Indian that the embargo imposed by the United States was the cause of the massive exodus of Cubans to that country because it affected the standard of living of the island’s inhabitants.
“The blockade constitutes the main obstacle to the development of Cuba and, therefore, deteriorates the standard of living of the Cuban people; becoming, moreover, a fundamental cause of migration,” said Díaz-Canel, who also blamed the Cuban Adjustment Act and alleged political interests for the current migration crisis.
