In Córdoba they open space for former paramilitary leaders to present a roadmap with reparation

The Governor of Córdoba, Erasmo Zuleta, during the launch of the Territorial Peace Laboratory for Córdoba, expressed its concern about the social, economic and environmental challenges facing the region, while reiterating its commitment to peacebuilding and sustainable development.

He said that this meeting that took place at the Montería convention center, and was attended by active members of the Departmental Peace Council, including members of the government’s peace process with the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia, seeks, among other objectives, close the chapter of negotiations in Santa Fe Ralito, which remained unfinished, according to the criteria of victims and former perpetrators.

For his part, Rodrigo Rojas, advisor to the office of the Peace Commissioner Counselor, presented the thick lines that the 18 former leaders of the Self-Defense Forces must assume United Nations of Colombia designated as peace managers.

He stated that each of these must present a work plan, with a monthly review, in which they commit to contributing to the identification of goods delivered for repair, identification of the location of missing persons and carrying out reparative actions with the victims.

The governor recalled that one of the goals of this group is to achieve the reduction of crimes such as homicide and robbery, as well as the cessation of extortion that affects various social classes.

It also seeks to establish an effective dialogue with illegal armed groups and guarantee the presence of the State to offer opportunities and basic services such as education, health and employment.

“Peace is the dignity of people’s lives, it is opportunities, respect for human rights and access to basic services such as education, drinking water and employment,” he said.

The governor, Erasmo Zuleta Becharareferred to the controversial designation of former members of the United Self-Defense Forces of Colombia as peace managers, pointing out that, although these people have served sentences for their crimes, there is apathy and skepticism among citizens due to the lack of clarity about their role in the process.

Finally, he expressed his support so that this process can help close open wounds, which this year celebrate 20 years in the department.
