The Third National Superior Criminal Chamber for Organized Crime was the scene of the confrontation or confrontation hearing, for the Hugo Bustíos case, between the defendant Daniel Urresti Elera and the witness Isabel Rodríguez Chipana. The former candidate for mayor of Lima angrily denied the woman’s claims that she claims to have seen him shoot the journalist from Huantino.
Face to face, Isabel Rodríguez began by pointing out that she met Daniel Urresti as ‘Captain Arturo’ when members of her community worked on the construction of the wall of the Castropampa military barracks, in Huanta, Ayacucho region.
The response of the retired Army general was to point her out as a liar. “You are lying knowingly, flagrantly. You are lying in cold blood.”he said out loud.
This attitude caused a call for attention from the court. He was reminded that he was in a plea hearing, so he had to stick to the facts.
Even so, he said again that Isabel Rodríguez was lying when she stated that the Castropampa wall was built in 1980. Urresti assured that it was built at the end of 1986 and the beginning of 1987.
It alleged that this version was given by 19 witnesses, including Hilda Aguilar. Again, she was called to her attention because she mentioned witnesses who were not at the hearing where two versions were confronted: the witness’s and the defendant’s.
Urresti persisted in defending himself with everything: raising his voice, not abiding by the rules of the confrontation and even asking questions that were not within his competence.
He also stated that the community members only worked on Saturdays and that no women participated. Isabel Rodríguez maintained that they attended daily and that there were women.
“Not only men have gone. I have been a member, three women have gone from my community. We have taken out eight or ten men every day so that they can work. We have supervised this work, Mr. Urresti, ”he replied.
The next fact that was the subject of the confrontation was the version of Isabel Rodríguez about the death of Hugo Bustíos and the way in which she saw Daniel Urresti shoot.
“You were coming down, four civilian clothes with white polo shirts, and then they came running towards my store, two of them entered my kitchen that was without a roof. I knew him well before, I also knew Centurión, Ojos de Gato and the other man whose name I don’t know.”he stated.
And he added that a linear motorcycle appeared, “and there you have shot, sir, I have seen it. He yelled: don’t shoot, don’t shoot, we are journalists. The lord fell.” I was also afraid under the bushes. So, I have already escaped, ”he recounted.
Daniel Urresti said that Isabel’s house was six blocks from the place. He also denied the existence of a store.
At the end of the hearing, the court indicated that “it would have been good to hear Mr. Urresti say why he was not present in that place. He missed the opportunity.”
