The events occurred when the social leader was leaving a meeting and shortly before arriving at his home he was attacked by unknown persons.
The victim was identified as Willington Hernández, who was the president of the Community Action Board of the La Unión Peneya Inspection, in the municipality of La Montañita, Caquetá.

In addition to his work for the benefit of the community, Willington was also a renowned merchant in the area.

According to Indepaz, since the peace agreement with the FARC-EP was signed, 1,267 social leaders have been assassinated in Colombia; and so far in 2021 the figure has already reached 152.
