List 40 of the National Party held a small campaign rally in Plaza Trouville, in Pocitos, where some of the media personalities of the right-wing political force were present, among whom Senator Sebastián da Silva stood out.
The legislator brought up on stage a man dressed as Goofball, the Disney character, in an allusion to the Frente Amplio candidate, Yamandú Orsi. The character had his mouth gagged with a red cloth and a logo alluding to communism on his chest.
Behind da Silva, other PN leaders, such as Laura Raffo, Javier García and Rodrigo Goñi, watched the offensive act in which the cartoon dog was compared to the leftist candidate. For days on social media, da Silva has been comparing him to Goofy.
When he came on stage, da Silva had the microphone in his hand and gave a hunch as if feigning surprise. “Cut, cut, cut…” he asked the soundman, to stop the music. “What’s wrong with Goofy? His mouth is shut! What’s wrong with you Goofy? Your mouth is shut!” he began to say in front of the small audience of a few dozen people. “What does that mean?” he added, while some in the audience shouted other insults.
And he continued: “Goofy, it’s time for you to start talking, it’s time for you to open your mouth. Please take off that gag. Please, everyone take a photo with Goofy and please ask him to open his mouth. Applause for Goofy!”
These photos circulated on social media, showing the character holding a hammer and sickle.
