The average price reference for dairy products in the international market remains at a positive level for product suppliers, after an upward movement that occurred on Tuesday 16 (in an activity with a somewhat higher volume of traded merchandise compared to the previous instance), in the second tender in November within the framework of the business of event N ° 296 of the Global platform Dairy Trade – Fonterra.
This commercial instance constitutes a highly relevant focus in the markets of this segment of agri-food, especially for countries with an export base, such as Uruguay, where almost 80% of the milk produced is industrialized and traded abroad.
In the initial tender in November, the reference had reached US $ 4,207 per ton and now, averaging the eleventh month of the year, remained at US $ 4,287 per ton, that is, US $ 80 more per ton, after a rise of 1.9%.
It is still a very interesting value, which it follows the 4.3% rise in early November and is the third positive adjustment to the thread.
Since the beginning of 2020 there have been 22 commercial instances with nine downward adjustments, 12 increases and the neutral data from the beginning of October. Within this framework, upward movements were larger than declines.
The initial reference price this year, on January 5, was US $ 3,420 per ton considering all dairy products, with a reference value of US $ 3,306 per ton for powdered milk, both values much lower than the current ones.

In reading by subheads, in the case of whole milk powder (WMP), which is the dairy product with the highest volume in Uruguay’s external placements, the average price rose by 1.9% in mid-November, when the reference value rose to US $ 3,987 per ton.
At the beginning of November, it had risen 2.7%, remaining at US $ 3,921 per ton.
In this instance, 175 bidders participated for the commercialization of 30,397 thousand tons (+ 1.6% in relation to the previous event).
The next tender, which will be event 297, is scheduled for Tuesday, December 7, 2021.
