LIMA, Peru – While Cubans suffer daily blackouts, the Electric Company of the Cuban regime ensures that, even if the service is few and deficient, customers have available channels to be able to charge them.
According to information published by Transfermóvil on social networks, Cubans will have a four percent discount on the payment of their electricity bill if they make the transaction through the MiTransfer wallet.
The promotion will be valid from March 1 to 10, 2026. During that period, users who pay the amount of their electricity bill through the MiTransfer wallet will automatically receive a 4% discount on the total amount paid.
The Economic Agenda section of the official media Cubadebatehighlighted that the initiative seeks to encourage the use of electronic payment gateways in the country and “make it easier for the population to fulfill their obligations without having to travel to commercial offices or use cash.”

In contrast, while the Electric Company on the Island is concerned about billing, the energy crisis worsens and the lack of fluid has become the norm in the town’s daily life.
This Sunday, the Electrical Union (UNE) of Cuba announced blackouts for 53% of the country.
According to the daily report of the state company, during the night peak an availability of 1,532 megawatts (MW) and a maximum demand of 3,180 MW are expected, for a deficit of 1,648 MW, so, if the expected conditions continue, an impact of 1,678 MW is expected at this time of the day.
The causes of the collapse are multiple and structural in nature. An important part of thermal generation is out of service due to breakdowns or prolonged maintenance, which reduces the production base on which the system is supported. Added to this are the limitations in distributed generation, affected by the shortage of fuel and basic supplies, which has left dozens of engines and support plants inoperative.
Although solar parks have been incorporated into the National Electrical System in recent months, their contribution, concentrated mainly in daytime hours, does not compensate for the loss of capacity of thermoelectric plants or cover peak consumption at night, when the largest disconnections occur.
The result is a system that works at its limit, with increasingly narrow margins to respond to demand and with a direct impact on the daily life of the population, basic services and economic activity, in a context where energy crisis It is consolidated as one of the most acute and persistent problems in the country.
